 Phinizy Swamp Nature Park

  • Visitor Services

Regular volunteer positions in our Swamp Shop Gift Store & Visitor’s Center are available assisting staff with merchandise sales, sales of snacks & refreshments, and offering park information & direction to day visitors. Volunteer Visitor Service Assistants are required to complete our certification process, which is an initial 6-hour training commitment.

  • Special Events

Phinizy Swamp is host to several annual main events that require a number of one-time volunteers in various roles.

Upcoming events you can be involved in include:

    Rivers Alive Cleanup
    October 25th, 9 AM – Noon
This is your opportunity to help protect one of our most precious resources…water! This year you can help with this statewide effort by helping Phinizy Center clean up Butler Creek. Learn more here.

  • Leading Guided Hikes and Tours

Our Volunteer Park Guides lead leisurely hikes & bike rides monthly and lead special occasion guided hikes such as full moon hikes, bird walks, school field trips, etc. Volunteer Park Guides are required to complete our certification process, which is an initial 10-hour training commitment.

  • Submitting Park Information and Documentation

We rely on assistance from our park visitors and volunteers to keep our Nature Park information up to date. You can help in areas such as updating park maps; submitting photography for marketing & social media; species watch & documentation; and much more!)

  • Park & Campus Maintenance

Be a part of keeping the park clean and safe for visitors! Help is needed to maintain park visitor restrooms & water fountains, the Swamp Shop building, information kiosks, picnic pavilions; and the campus buildings such as the research lab, education classroom, development building; all require ongoing general care such as repainting, cleaning exterior walls, removal of leaves from gutters, electrical & plumbing, storage additions, etc.

You can help maintain the park’s beautiful walking trails by selecting a trail and walking it once a month to trim back over grown brush and trees, to pick up trash, and to report any safety concerns. This is a great opportunity for organizations &/or groups.

  • Eagle Scout Projects

Over the years, many Scouts have completed their Eagle Scout project here at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park. Successfully completed projects have included building Park Information Kiosks, covered benches for park guests to sit & rest, building & repairing boardwalks, building picnic benches, and so much more! We welcome Scouts to consider Phinizy Swamp Nature Park for their Eagle Scout project.
